Sign and symptom of COPD and A. Pneumonia

Signs of COPD:
 Ongoing cough or productive cough (smoker’s cough)
 Shortness of breath
 Wheezing
 Chest tightness
◦ described as a feeling of pressure within the chest walls that makes automated breathing difficult
◦ can be due to infection of the lungs and is often associated with COPD
Symptoms of COPD:
Chronic cough
 long term and doesn't seem to go away
 A productive cough clears mucus from the lungs, while a non-productive cough does not readily produce mucus
 one of the most common symptoms of COPD.
Increased sputum production
 Abundant amounts of sputum can be associated with inflammation or infection of the respiratory tract
 May be indicative of COPD
 Color and consistency of sputum that body produces can be related to the type of COPD
Dypsnea
 primarily due to a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream
 directly related to disturbances in the lungs such as with COPD.
Wheezing
 whistling sound heard during inhalation or exhalation
 caused by a narrowing or blockage of the airways
Clubbing of fingers
 a sign of long-term oxygen deprivation and is associated with a wide number of diseases, COPD included
Hemoptysis
 A symptom of both lung and heart problems
 In COPD, the most common cause is infection in the lungs
Cyanosis
 bluish discoloration of the skin
 late sign of chronic oxygen deprivation in the blood
 lips, tongue, nail beds and earlobes.
Signs and symptoms
of
acute pneumonia
 Fever with chill
 Chest pain
 Breathing difficulty
 Coughing and wheezing
 Headache
 Sore throat
 Increase in heart rate
 Flushed cheeks
 Profuse sweating
 Bluish color to the nail bed and lips
