Disease associated with OSA
 Systemic Hypertension
• repetitive cyclical hypoxia produces sustained elevations in blood pressure
 Pulmonary hypertension
 Cardiovascular disease
• manifests itself in repetitive episodes of cessation of breathing (apneas) associated with falls in oxygen saturation and/or a brief lightening of sleep state at the termination of the episode (arousals).
• lead to cardiovascular disease by promoting hypertension, insulin resistance, and inflammation.
 Bilateral leg edema
 Impotence
 Stroke
 Cognitive dysfunction
 Memory loss
 Psychiatric problems
 Psycosocial problems associated such as:
• Depression
• Mood changes
• Poor memory
• Irritability and impaired concentration.
